nopCommerce 5.00 is here. The nopCommerce team published version 5.00.0 on October 27, 2026, one year and one week after 4.90 shipped. The official release description positions it as a version built around enterprise-level features, and it moves the platform to .NET 10.
This is a major version, so it matters for two audiences at once. Business owners get new tools for AI-assisted discovery, B2B selling, customer sign-in, and store automation. Developers and technical leads get a new framework baseline that touches hosting, tooling, plugins, themes, and custom code.
This guide explains what nopCommerce 5.00 introduces, how each feature may help an online business, and what existing 4.x store owners should check before upgrading. It separates what nopCommerce provides natively from what depends on outside services, and it does not promise results the release itself does not promise.
nopCommerce 5.00 Release Overview
Version: 5.00.0 Published: October 27, 2026 (official nopCommerce GitHub release) Predecessor: nopCommerce 4.90, released October 20, 2025, with 4.90.8 as its latest minor release (September 4, 2026) Packages: source code, no-source builds for Windows x64, Windows x86, and Linux x64, plus an upgrade scripts package
The headline changes announced for this version are:
A move to .NET 10
AI-powered recommendation engines, an AI chatbot integration, and a ChatGPT shopping product feed
Native price lists, PunchOut support using cXML, and consolidated or separate vendor carts
Phone number and SMS sign-in, desired delivery date selection, and 3D product models
Reminders for abandoned carts, pending registrations, and pending orders
An EU Withdrawal Button and general safety and performance requirements (GSPR) support
Who should explore this release? Three groups benefit most from looking now: B2B and enterprise merchants who want built-in pricing and procurement capabilities, agencies and plugin developers who need time to port extensions, and technical teams that must plan around the .NET lifecycle. Stores running a stable 4.90.x installation with many third-party extensions do not need to rush. They do need a plan.
.NET 10 Upgrade: A New Technology Foundation
nopCommerce is built on ASP.NET Core, so the .NET version defines the SDK, the runtime, the hosting environment, and every library the store depends on. Version 4.90 runs on .NET 9. Version 5.00 requires .NET 10.
What the official requirements say
According to the 5.00.0 release page, development requires:
Visual Studio 2026 (v18.0) or above
.NET 10 SDK (10.0.401)
ASP.NET Core Runtime 10.0.12 (Windows Hosting Bundle for Windows hosting)
For comparison, 4.90 development required Visual Studio 2022 (v17.12 or higher) and .NET 9. Packages for other operating systems and processor families are available from Microsoft's .NET 10 download page.
Why the framework change matters to a business
Microsoft classifies .NET 10 as a Long Term Support (LTS) release. It was released on November 11, 2025, and Microsoft's support policy lists its end of support as November 14, 2028. .NET 9 is a Standard Term Support release, and the same policy lists its end of support as November 10, 2026.
That timeline gives 4.90 store owners a practical planning reason to look at 5.00. A store on 4.90 runs on a framework that is nearing the end of its support window, while 5.00 sits on a runtime with a longer one. Note that Microsoft's policy also expects supported .NET releases to stay on the latest patch, which is why the release page names specific SDK and runtime versions.
What to check
Hosting: Confirm your server, hosting provider, or container image supports the .NET 10 runtime.
Tooling: Developer machines and build servers need the newer Visual Studio and SDK.
Custom code: Plugins, themes, and core customizations compile against the framework and nopCommerce version, so expect rebuilds and testing.
Dependencies: Third-party NuGet packages may need updates.
Maintenance: Budget for ongoing patching, not just the initial move.
We are not citing performance figures here. The release materials we reviewed do not publish benchmarks, and results vary by hosting, data, and customization. Measure your own store on staging.
AI-Powered Features in nopCommerce 5.00
The official announcement lists three AI-related capabilities. Each has a different dependency profile, so it helps to treat them separately.
AI-powered product recommendation engines
Recommendation engines suggest products based on shopper behavior and catalog data, typically on product pages, in carts, or on the home page. They can support product discovery in large catalogs. Results depend on data quality, configuration, and traffic volume, so conversion gains are not guaranteed. Recommendation engines generally rely on an external AI or search service, so confirm which providers are supported, what they cost, and what customer data they receive.
Intelligent chatbot integration
The announcement names Jotform for AI chatbots that assist shoppers around the clock. This is an integration with a third-party service, not a self-contained nopCommerce chatbot. Practical questions include account setup, pricing, privacy review, answer quality for your products and policies, and a clear path to a human agent.
ChatGPT shopping and product feed
nopCommerce 5.00 adds a product feed for ChatGPT shopping. A feed supplies structured catalog data such as titles, prices, availability, and URLs. It does not guarantee placement or ranking in any AI shopping experience. Accurate, current data matters most, because stale prices or stock status create bad shopper experiences. Check the official documentation for eligibility and activation steps before building plans around it.
For context, version 4.90 already introduced AI-assisted content tools such as product description generation. Version 5.00 extends AI toward discovery and shopper assistance.
New Customer Experience Features
Phone number and SMS-based sign-in
Customers can sign in with a phone number and an SMS code, as an additional option beside email login. A mobile-first shopper who rarely checks email, or a store serving regions where phone numbers are the primary identifier, may find this easier.
Plan for the details: SMS delivery generally depends on a messaging provider and per-message costs, and you will need to think through code expiry, rate limiting, account recovery, and customers who share or change numbers. SMS sign-in is an added option, not an automatic security upgrade.
Desired delivery date selection
Shoppers can choose a desired delivery date. Think of a florist, a furniture retailer coordinating deliveries, or a grocery or gifting business with time-sensitive orders. A requested date is not a guaranteed date, so make sure your carrier options, warehouse capacity, and cut-off rules support what the checkout offers.
3D product models
Product pages can present 3D models. For products where shape, finish, or scale drives the purchase decision, such as furniture, eyewear, or industrial parts, a rotatable model can supplement photos. Prepare assets with page speed and mobile performance in mind, and confirm supported formats before committing a catalog to it.
New Enterprise and B2B eCommerce Capabilities
This is where nopCommerce 5.00 changes the most for business buyers.
Native price lists
Before this release, stores with negotiated or customer-specific pricing typically relied on discounts, tier prices, or plugins. Native price list support gives B2B sellers a built-in way to manage defined price sets. It is relevant to distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturers with contract pricing. Stores with ERP-driven pricing may still need integration work, so test your real pricing scenarios, including quantity breaks and customer segmentation, rather than assuming a rule type exists.
PunchOut support using cXML
PunchOut lets a buyer open a supplier's catalog from inside their own procurement system, build a cart, and return it for approval and purchase order creation. cXML is the XML protocol commonly used for that exchange. For suppliers selling to large organizations that require procurement-system ordering, native support lowers a barrier. Each buyer's system has its own requirements, so expect integration testing, credential handling, and security review per customer.
Consolidated and separate vendor carts
For multi-vendor stores, nopCommerce 5.00 supports both consolidated carts (one cart across vendors) and separate carts per vendor. The right model depends on how you want checkout, shipping, tax, and order splitting to work. These cart options are not a complete marketplace system, so verify commission, settlement, and fulfillment needs separately.
Version 4.90 also added a Request for Quote workflow for negotiated B2B orders, and 5.00 builds on that enterprise direction.
Store Management and Automation Updates
nopCommerce 5.00 adds three reminder types for the store owner's toolkit:
Abandoned cart reminders to re-engage shoppers who left items behind
Pending registration reminders to nudge people who started but did not complete sign-up
Pending order reminders to follow up on orders awaiting action
A small business could use them to replace manual follow-up; a larger one might use them to reduce abandoned-cart recovery plugins. Before enabling any of them, confirm supported channels and settings in the official documentation, set sensible frequency limits, and review consent and marketing rules in your markets. Track recovered orders so you can tune timing rather than guess.
Compliance and Regulatory Updates
EU Withdrawal Button (Directive 2023/2673)
Directive (EU) 2023/2673 introduces a requirement for a simple, online way for consumers to withdraw from distance contracts, commonly called a withdrawal button. nopCommerce 5.00 includes support for this function. It is relevant to merchants selling to consumers in EU member states.
General safety and performance requirements (GSPR)
nopCommerce 5.00 also lists GSPR-related functionality. This is the label the release uses, and it relates to product safety information. It should not be assumed identical in scope to the EU General Product Safety Regulation (commonly abbreviated GPSR), so confirm the exact fields and workflows in the official documentation. Typical product safety data includes manufacturer details, responsible-person information, and safety documentation.
What this does and does not mean
These features give a store tools to support its compliance work. Installing nopCommerce 5.00 does not make a business legally compliant. Obligations depend on your products, markets, and customers. Test the workflows end to end and get qualified legal or compliance advice for your situation.
nopCommerce 5.00 vs. nopCommerce 4.90
Rows reflect differences that appear in official release communications and 4.90 coverage. A "no" for a feature in 4.90 does not mean no workaround existed, since plugins and custom work covered some of these needs.
What Existing nopCommerce Store Owners Should Know Before Upgrading
An upgrade from 4.90 to 5.00 is a major version change, not a routine patch. Minor releases within 4.90 are fully compatible with each other, and the 4.90.x release notes say so explicitly. No equivalent guarantee exists between major versions.
Hosting and runtime. Confirm your host supports ASP.NET Core 10. Windows servers need the Windows Hosting Bundle for the required runtime, and Linux users should use the Linux package and matching runtime.
Plugins and themes. Do not assume a 4.90 plugin or theme works on 5.00. Ask each vendor whether a 5.00 build exists, and test everything you cannot confirm. Themes with overridden views deserve extra attention.
Custom code. Core modifications and custom plugins must be retargeted to .NET 10, rebuilt, and retested.
Database and upgrade preparation. nopCommerce publishes an upgrade scripts package for moving an existing installation forward. Run it first on a copy of production data, never on the live database.
Payment and shipping integrations. Verify each gateway and carrier in sandbox mode, including refunds, voids, and webhook handling.
Staging and rollback. Build a staging environment that mirrors production. Back up the database and files, test the restore, and write down the rollback steps before any live cutover.

How a nopCommerce Development Partner Can Help
Some upgrades are simple. Many are not, particularly stores with heavy customization or a long list of extensions. A development partner can add value in these areas:
Version upgrades: Assessing the store, planning the path, and running the upgrade on staging first
Custom plugin compatibility: Porting plugins to .NET 10 and the 5.00 plugin architecture
Theme updates: Reconciling custom themes with changes in the new version
ASP.NET Core and .NET 10 migration: Updating dependencies, build pipelines, and hosting
Integrations: Rebuilding or re-testing ERP, CRM, payment, and shipping connections
B2B and enterprise workflows: Configuring price lists, scoping PunchOut, and designing vendor cart behavior
Performance testing and deployment: Load testing, release planning, and rollback rehearsal
Shivaay Soft is a nopCommerce Gold Solution Partner based in Surat, India, working with nopCommerce and ASP.NET Core. We build custom plugins and themes and support stores through version upgrades. Our approach starts with an audit of your plugins and customizations, followed by a staging test, so you know what needs changing before any production work begins.
Conclusion
nopCommerce 5.00 is a significant release. It moves the platform to .NET 10, adds AI-assisted discovery, introduces native price lists and PunchOut for B2B, expands customer sign-in and delivery options, automates common follow-up tasks, and adds tools that support EU consumer and product-safety workflows.
Not every store needs every feature. A distributor may care most about price lists and PunchOut, while a consumer brand may care about reminders and sign-in options. For all stores on 4.90, the .NET lifecycle is a practical reason to plan the move carefully rather than leave it open-ended.
Evaluate nopCommerce 5.00 against your own requirements, test on staging, and confirm plugin and integration readiness before going live. If you want help with nopCommerce development, customization, or an upgrade assessment, contact Shivaay Soft to talk through your store.
